We will immerse ourselves in the history of medieval Barcelona starting in the Plaza de Berenguer el Gran, where the equestrian statue reminds us of its Roman origins as Barcino, the seed of the vibrant City of Barcelona.
From Plaza del Ángel, we will head towards Argentería Street, where the majestic Basilica of Santa María del Mar will captivate us with its Gothic architecture. Immortalized by Ildefonso Falcones in "The Cathedral of the Sea", this church contains the passions and struggles of Arnau Estanyol.
We will continue along Santa María street until we reach the moving Fossar de les Moreres, the mulberry tree cemetery, a tribute to those who fell in the siege of 1714. The Paseo del Born welcomes us with the cultural bustle of the El Born Cultural Center, witness of the history that is breathed in its walls.
Montcada Street transports us to the Renaissance, flanked by majestic palaces such as the Palau Dalmases, a jewel of Catalan Gothic. Here, the Picasso Museum invites us to discover art in a historical setting.
Finally, we will explore the surroundings of the Marcús chapel, where history is intertwined with the founding of a hospital and cemetery by Bernat Marcús in the 12th century. We will conclude our trip in the Plaza de la Lana, thus completing our tour of the medieval heart of Barcelona.
