Explore the charming Jewish neighborhood of Besalú and immerse yourself in the history of one of the most fascinating medieval towns in the Gerona region.

Itinerary

We will begin our visit to Besalú at the time you prefer, right in front of the emblematic Romanesque bridge that crosses the Fluvià River.

Once on the other side, we will enter the medieval heart of this picturesque town. We will visit its most emblematic corners, with special attention to the call or Jewish neighborhood. Its narrow and picturesque streets will take us several centuries back in time.

In the year 1492, the Catholic Monarchs decreed the expulsion of the Jewish population from their kingdoms. However, the legacy of this community still endures, as evidenced by a visit to one of the four miqves preserved throughout Europe. In this ancient building, used for Jewish ritual baths, we will discover the details of this important purification process. During our walk through the call, we will also explore the customs, traditions, culture and gastronomy of the Jewish world. In addition, we will learn about the history of other notable local monuments, such as the monastery of San Pedro, a monastery consecrated in the 11th century by Count Bernard I of Besalú, known as "Tallaferro."

We will conclude our two-hour tour in the historic center of Besalú, where you can continue enjoying the beauty and charm of this medieval town.
