Explore the fascinating prehistoric history with this guided tour of the Abrigos de la Ermita, a hidden wonder in the heart of the province of Tarragona.
We will meet you at the time you choose in front of the majestic Pietat Hermitage, located on the route between Tortosa and Ulldecona.
We will begin the tour with a captivating introduction about the spiritual meaning of the Levantine cave paintings discovered in this Catalan region. What mysteries do they contain? How did these ancient communities obtain pigments? All these questions will be answered as we explore the Interpretation Center of the Ermita de la Pietat, immersing ourselves in the daily life of our ancestors more than 7,000 years ago.
After this fascinating immersion in the past, we will venture on a short 400-meter walk to closely admire three of the nine rock shelters that surround the hermitage. Inside, we will witness a unique artistic spectacle: the cave paintings declared a World Heritage Site.
These artistic expressions, dating back to the Neolithic, reveal the beliefs and rituals of ancient civilizations, many of them linked to hunting. Furthermore, these natural shelters not only served as canvases, but also as shelter and a stage for their ceremonies.
After two hours, we will conclude our trip enjoying the impressive panoramic views that the Abrigos de la Ermita offer us, contemplating the beauty of the El Montsiá region and the majesty of the Sierra de Godall.
